Advanced Data Communication
Level: Graduate
This course deals with the advanced communication concepts with special focus on the lower layers of the OSI model. It starts with the physical layer issues such as modulation, spread spectrum techniques and data transmission. Digital access techniques (DSL, Cable MODEM and Optical networks) are also briefly discussed. The channel access issues in emerging wireless networks are discussed on layer-2. From the end user’s viewpoint, any advanced communication system should be able to ensure security and service guarantees. Therefore, this course also covers discussions on Network Security and Quality of Service. The course outline is as follows.
