Electromechanical Energy Principles
Level: Graduate
This is a postgraduate course that deals with issues pertinent to conversion of energy. This course is mainly concerned with the conversion of mechanical energy into electrical form. It starts with an overview of the available energy resources, as well as recaps on electrical and mechanical machines that are involved in the energy conversion process. Special emphasis is laid on the discussions pertinent to Electric Generators and Turbines. With conventional fuel-based resources depleting rapidly, this course takes into account renewable power generation methods. For instance, it considers power plants that operate on wind, wave, tidal energies, etc. The course outline is as follows.
Course Outline
Energy Resources
Power Generation and Transmission
Synchronous Generators and Turbines
Wind Energy and Control techniques
Distributed Generation and Smart Grids
Ocean Energy (OTEC, Tidal and Wave Power)
Hydroelectric Plants
Geothermal Power
